Historical Note

The Society for Women in Philosophy was founded in 1970 as the Women's Caucus of the American Philosophical Foundation to address the professional problems of women in philosophy and the philosophical implications of Women's Liberation. It was renamed SWIP in May 1971. Through a newsletter, regular meetings, and conferences, the Society has sought to enable women in philosophy to communicate about their common concerns and scholarly activities.
