Since 1985, Smith College has offered an engineering minor with concentrations in chemical, civil, and computer engineering. Between 1976 and 1991, Smith was partners with the University of Massachusetts in a dual engineering program. The Engineering Department was developed in 2000 and focuses on computer, electrical and environmental engineering.
The Engineering Department records, 1970s-2000s, contain materials describing the history and offerings of the department. Types of materials include newspaper and magazine articles about the development of the program, pamphlets about the department's courses, and black and white photographs of faculty and students.
Single photocopies may be made for research purposes. Permission to publish material from the documents must be requested from the Smith College Archives. Smith College owns copyright to any published material relating to college events and activities.
