<bioghist>

Abington Friends School was established by Abington Monthly Meeting in the latter part of the
eighteenth century as a day school. In 1886 a new building was erected, and a boarding department
was added. The School was established “for the purpose of furnishing a thorough and guarded
education at a moderate profit. It is under the care of a committee appointed by Abington Monthly
Meeting.

Early school masters at Abington Friends School include George Boone (uncle of Daniel) in 1718,
and Alexander Seaton in 1731. George Boone made transcripts of early minutes of Abington Meeting and
was Clerk of the Meeting from 1716 to 1720. Alexander Seaton continued transcribing minutes and was
a teacher by profession.
